Riverstone. Business park in doubt

Woolworths is considering pulling out of the NSW Government’s proposed $1 billion business park, at Riverstone, over residents’ fears of flooding and the demolition of 18 heritage homes, according to The Daily Telegraph. A Big W distribution centre, which would have provided up to a third of the estimated 12,000 jobs in the park, was thought pivotal to the project.

Penrith. Food markets boost town centres

Establishing markets promoting locally-grown food would encourage extra trade for local businesses, drawing new customers and visitors to the region, said the Minister for Western Sydney, David Borger, when opening a forum on invigorating town centres therough local fresh food marketing strategies, in Penrith “The NSW Government is balancing the demands of Greater Western Sydney’s growing urban population with the need to protect its rural environment,” he said.

Fairfield. New water recycling plant

A new water recycling plant is to be built at Fairfield to provide 4.3 billion litres of recycled water a year to be used at commercial sites such as Rosehill Gardens Racecourse and the Shell Refinery, at Clyde, as part of the $100 million Rosehill-Camellia Water Recycling Scheme contract The NSW Government has issued Veolia Water with the first licence under new water competition laws to draw water from a nearby sewerage treatment plant for recycling.

Parramatta. Approval over 76 objections

The public exhibition of a proposal by Parramatta Scrap Metal, in North Parramatta, elicited 76 submissions objecting to the use an industrial building as a metal recycling facility. Council meeting on May 11 will consider a recommendation for approval.

Westmead. Recommendation for DA

Council will consider, at a meeting on May 11, a recommendation for approval for the demolition and construction of a 4-storey mixed-use development, containing a 2400-square-metre supermarket, 1360 square metres of retail space, 75 apartments and underground parking for 239 vehicles, at 29-33 Darcy Street, Westmead.
