Penrith. Jobs plan presented to council

Penrith Business Alliance chairman, Peter Brennan, has outlined a jobs strategy in a 12-month business plan presented to Penrith City Council He said the alliance is talking to all levels of government about growing the CBD, particularly looking at bringing a government department in as an anchor. He said said the PBA executive, councillors and council staff visited Gosford to get ideas on rebranding and rejuvenating their city.

Casula. Costco passes first hurdle

Supermarket giant, Costco, has passed the first hurdle to setting up shop in Casula. Costco Warehouse at the Crossroads Homemaker Centre would inject $35 million into the local economy through the construction of the warehouse and create more than 250 full-time positions. In another matter, Mayor Wendy Waller, confirmed plans to attract IKEA to Liverpool.

The Hills. Promotion in the UK

Three Hills businessmen, John Glover, of Pendragon, Tony Eades, of BrandManager and Bill Elmer, of SalesMechanix, have launched Your Australian Business at Event Cinemas, Castle Hill. to promote the area in the UK, in November. They met through their membership of the Sydney Hills Business Chamber and started developing the idea about a year ago.

Liverpool. $1.4 million for parking metres

Liverpool City Council has decided to install parking meters in the city centre at a cost of $1.4 million. Councillors accepted the tender from Reino International for the supply, installation and maintenance of parking meters. The on-street parking meters will go live in January next year, allowing for a one-month grace period.

The Hills. DA approved

A DA for the controversial Castle Hill Tavern has been passed through Hills Shire Council. John Mahony, of Mahony Taren Lawyers, objected on behalf of Norwest Hotels Unit Trust and the Hills Lodge. He said any council decision should be deferred until council has commissioned a traffic engineers report and a social impact study.

Campbelltown. 2100 new homes

The state government plans to put more than 2100 new homes in Campbelltown in the next four years. This makes Campbelltown the third largest growth area in Western Sydney (after Blacktown and Camden) as part of the O'Farrell government's commitment to create 10,000 homes in Western Sydney.

Region. Receivers called in

Australia’s largest listed pub operator, National Leisure & Gaming, has been put into the hands of receivers, PPB Advisory, owing about $180 million. Properties in Western Sydney managed by the company include Bankstown Club Hotel, Campbelltown Club Hotel, Doonside Hotel, Lalor Park Hotel, Lidcombe Hotel, Cabramatta Hotel, Keighery Hotel, Auburn, Mount Druitt Cedars Tavern, Royal Hotel, Granville, St Mary’s Hotel and Wattlegrove Club Hotel.

Liverpool. Key themes for growth

Jobs, growth and a positive economic boost for Liverpool were the key themes espoused at the Regional Development Australia Sydney seminar and workshop at Liverpool Catholic Club. RDA-Sydney, CEO, Bob Germaine said the organisation worked closely with local government. "We're about promoting economic development and creating jobs,” he said. Liverpool City Council GM, Farooq Portelli, said council was looking to appoint a economic development manager in the future.
