Region. Students go overseas

Two University of Western Sydney students are travelling overseas to represent Australia at two of the world’s most significant global summits. Edward Popa, 19, a UWS Bachelor of Business and Commerce / Bachelor of Laws student from Parramatta, will attend the biggest environmental summit of the decade, The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, in Brazil. Ruth Lo Surdo, 20, a UWS Bachelor of Economics & Laws student from Greenacre, is also receiving a fully sponsored package to attend the G20 Youth Summit in Washington, also in June. Edward and Ruth are both members of the University of Western Sydney’s Aspire Furure Leaders Program.

Oatlands. Reception centre sold

Oatlands House, the early-1800s residence turned reception centre on a 1.43-hectare holding, has been sold $4.45 million to John and Sal Navarra, who head the family which operates three event centres: Le Montage, Curzon Hall and its foundation venue, Conca D’oro. The vendor was Badindo Pty Ltd, directed by William and Oki Chan, as trustee for the Oatlands Property Trust.

Newington. Shares up 220 per cent

Poker machine manufacturer, Ainsworth Technology, at Newington, has been one of the hottest small caps this. The shares are up 220 per cent on hype about its United States expansion. Following an equity raising, Ainsworth’s market capitalisation is almost $500 million, according to The Australian Financial Review.

Region. Speculative development

Joshua Charles, CBRE regional director, industrial, logistics and investment, predicts an increase in speculative warehouse development this year, primarily in Western Sydney, following the national surge for new warehouses, prompted, in part, by the intensifying competition between Coles and Westfarmers.
