Moorebank. Support for government terminal

The country's biggest transport company, Toll Holdings, has thrown its support behind a federal government-sponsored freight terminal, at Moorebank, that is to be partly funded in tomorrow's budget. The federal opposition and business groups have fiercely criticised the government's proposal for a large terminal at Moorebank and instead support a rival plan by a consortium led by Chris Corrigan's Qube Logistics to build a terminal on a separate site across the road.

Richmond. Open up RAAF Base

The Department of Defence should open RAAF Base Richmond to commercial flights. John Lee, head of Tourism and Transport Forum, will hold a meeting with the Minister for Defence, Stephen Smith, on Wednesday, to lobby that the base and Garden Island be opened up, according to The Daily Telegraph. He said Richmond was a practical and sensible solution to ensure seats for customers, and the capacity to grow in future years. He said Richmond was a practical alternative given the present stalemate over possible airport sites at Badgerys Creek and Wilton.

North West. Request for funds refused

Infrastructure Australia has refused a request by the NSW government to fund the $8.5 billion North-West Rail Link saying the project is “not the highest priority for Sydney”. Infrastructure Australia recommended “a broader range of options be considered, in particular, alternate transit solutions (busways) and links to Parramatta” .

Sydney Olympic Park. Units sell fast

Developer, Ecove, has sold 111 of 270 apartments of stage two of its Australia Towers development at Sydney Olympic Park, less than two weeks after the launch of 25-storey stage. Stage one of the development is now complete has 209 of 216 apartments. Stage two is one of three stages in the development.

Norwest. NBN not until 2015

Hills business communities will lobby against the exclusion of Norwest Business Park from the initial rollout of the National Broadband Network until 2015, according to The Hills Shire Times.

Liverpool. Council will engage consultant

Liverpool City Council has allocated $70,000 to hire a consultant or consultancy to undertake a detailed review of the SIMTA concept plan for a intermodal freight terminal at Moorebank, which went on public exhibition until May 28.

Penrith. City has a new brand

Penrith has a new brand “Penrith is Here”, which has been created to celebrate Penrith as a regional city. Mayor Greg Davies said the new brand would enhance community pride and create a new identity for the city. The logo is a stylised version of the letter P.
