Badgerys Creek. 'Case needs to be made'

The chairman of Infrastructure NSW, Nick Greiner, has renewed his call for a second airport at Badgerys Creek, arguing Western Sydney residents should be “overwhelmingly” in favour because of the jobs it would generate. In what appeared, according to The Sydney Morning Herald, as a direct challenge to the Premier, Barry O'Farrell, who is the Minister for Western Sydney but opposes a second airport, Mr Greiner declared: '”If we're serious about Western Sydney and its future and employment future … the case needs to be made.” Wilton is a possible site.

Wikton. Urban proposal

Wollondilly Shire Council will decide on Monday whether to exhibit a draft masterplan, which does not include the land proposed for the proposed second airport. The plan would provide for around 12,000 new homes and commercial land for 10,000 jobs. Council’s proposal redates the airport proposal. Council opposes the airport plan.

Region. Jobs in eastern Sydney

“I think the most extraordinary thing about the report is its major plans for western Sydney take place in eastern Sydney,” said Professor, Phillip O’Neill, from the UWS Urban Research Centre, in Parramatta, when commenting on Infrastructure NSW’s 20-year strategic plan. “They seem to of the view that the only future for two million plus people in western Sydney is to find jobs in eastern Sydney,” he said in the Parramatta Sun.
